Project Rationale
The study is to evaluate the feasibility of implementing drone-based delivery of medical supplies by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) i.e., drones in Lahaul & Spiti district, Himachal Pradesh.
Background of the study
Transporting medical supplies to remote areas is an essential medical requirement, especially in the case of medical emergencies, and accidents, and is often difficult to procure timely in hard-to-reach regions and has not been well-established in the Indian setting. In view of the limited data on the feasibility and utility of such an initiative in the Indian scenario. The research will be useful in documenting the feasibility of the transportation of medical supplies in hard-to-reach areas with extreme weather conditions. This mechanism of using Drones for transportation will be beneficial to explore the possibility of connecting remote locations (health centres) using UAV technology to enable immediate access to essential supplies.
Outcomes of the Study
This research helped in identifying the feasibility of implementation of the Drone Based Delivery Medical Supply Delivery in Keylong, Himachal Pradesh. During the study, the challenges associated with the operationalization of drones in delivering medical supplies at higher altitudes will be documented. This will ultimately assist in the establishment of the drone-based delivery of medical supplies to various parts of the country with similar terrains. Moreover, the assessment of the acceptability of medical supply delivery through drones among state stakeholders will be a beneficial step toward community outreach of this technology. Additionally, the knowledge and perceptions of the healthcare workers towards this mechanism will be observed and scored.
Importance of the study
This research seeks to provide a comprehensive framework for the successful realization and deployment of drone-based delivery systems for crucial medical supplies, particularly in regions where access is hindered by adverse weather conditions and geographical remoteness. By examining various factors such as technology feasibility, logistical challenges, regulatory considerations, and operational efficiency, this study aims to offer actionable insights and strategies to overcome obstacles and optimize the effectiveness of such initiatives. Ultimately, the findings of this research endeavor will contribute to enhancing healthcare accessibility and saving lives in hard-to-reach areas Pan-India.
